Behind the song

“My Favorite Book” is really about the path I’ve taken through life.

I’ve always been trying to make it. And I’ve learned there are easy ways to get ahead, but a lot of those shortcuts come with a curse attached to them. Sometimes the harder road is the one that actually takes you where you’re supposed to go.

I’ve been surrounded by dark times and dark situations, but somehow I still managed to glow through them. I’ve dealt with hate, doubt, and people who didn’t necessarily want to see me do well, but I never let that become the thing that determined where my life went.

I had goals. I kept going. And most importantly, I prayed.

My relationship with God and my connection to the Creator have always been bigger than whatever was happening around me. I believe a lot of what I’ve been able to accomplish and overcome came from that connection.

I’ve been through darkness, but I’ve also been blessed.

That’s what this song is about.

Lyrics & wordplay

I used to want to get it anyway I could.

But when you let the devil in he stay for good.

On another level nigga take a look.

I could write forever this my favorite book.

Put your hands together every player should.

Made it out the weather we escaped the hood.

Now we living better and we stay and put.

Focused on progression not possessions, I wish haters would.

As I go, stranded on this globe.

Surrounded by darkness, still managed to glow.

Check my soul, glow head to toe.

Flow like I row, no boat but I float.

So dope I don't smoke. So cold I done froze.

Choke hold around the globe, y'all know what I do.

All gold I'm a shine, although I'm a shrine.

Also in my prime, lost hope niggas dying but.

I still be trying to get it anyway I can.

But niggas trying to hate like I ain't a man.

Like I aint get to work right at 8 a.m.

12 hours straight I look up oh it's 8 again.

Like I don't do this stuff everyday and then come home ready to give up but I made a plan.

And not giving up till I make it man.

Niggas know what's up, shit get tough then I take a stand.

All my life they just made it hard for me.

Cuz when you're bright they don't like the sparkling.

This for every time haters tried darkening my shine and my soul, intertwined yea I know.

Step into my mind but watch out for mines that explode.

Every single time I spit out a line then reload.

Drop another line bitch I'm dropping bombs, don't you know?

When I pray to God I hear the response then I go.

Continue the journey
