Behind the song
“My Life” was about taking ownership of my life and realizing that I could live it however I wanted.
I had always believed that underneath everything, I was a good-hearted person, but I had also been hurt enough times that I learned to protect that part of myself.
Over time, I built a wall around myself. Instead of allowing the things that hurt me to break me, I poured that energy into becoming successful. The stronger that wall became, the more focused and independent I became.
The song is really me saying: this is my life. I know who I am, I know what I’ve been through, and I’m going to decide what I do with it.
Being hurt changed me, but I turned that change into something that helped me succeed.
