Behind the song
“New Choppa” was pure competition—not aimed at anybody specifically, but written like I was battling everybody.
The goal was to show how much technical ability I could pack into one freestyle: punchlines, metaphors, wordplay, flow and aggressive delivery.
The title also had a connection to my real life. Around that time I had bought an AR-15, so some of the imagery came directly from things that were actually part of my world rather than being purely fictional rap imagery. From there, I exaggerated and played with those themes as material for bars.
At its core, though, the record is about rapping ability.
It was me saying: put whoever you want in front of me and let the rapping speak for itself.
