Behind the song
“Fly Away” is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written because of how much I packed into the first and second verses. The poetry, concepts and wordplay all connect to a bigger idea about manifestation, accountability and understanding my own power.
Part of the song is about believing I can manifest the life I want, but manifestation doesn’t mean sitting around waiting for something to happen. You can’t make excuses for where you are in life. You have to hold yourself accountable, do the work and make the decisions necessary to get where you want to go.
It’s also about realizing why I needed to separate myself from certain people. When I’m completely laser-focused on my goals, I’m capable of accomplishing incredible things, and sometimes relationships become distractions from that.
But there’s another side to it too: even when people aren’t holding me back, I started realizing that my own intensity can hurt people without me ever intending to. Sometimes creating distance isn’t only about protecting myself—it can be about protecting them too.
That’s what flying away represents to me: knowing my own power, taking responsibility for my life, removing excuses and understanding when I need to separate myself from people so I can keep moving toward what I believe I’m capable of becoming.
