Behind the song
“Gangsta Mami” was me talking to a woman and showing her who I was—the confidence, the lifestyle and why I felt like I was the man. But underneath all of that confidence, I was also willing to be vulnerable with her.
That was the important part of the song for me. I believed she could be the one, so I was willing to lower some of the walls I normally kept up and show her a side of me that everybody didn’t get to see.
It’s really the contrast between those two sides of me: being completely confident in who I was while also being willing to open myself up emotionally because I believed she might actually be worth it.
